Back to normal

Whatever normal is…

For me, things around here seems to have stabilized. The exact same time I decided to upgrade from WordPress 1.2.2 to 1.5-gamma 2005-02-07, my host was trying out some spam prevention scripts. He didn’t think they’d affect us, but they did. I couldn’t get any email that would go through this site, including the contact form and comment notification. After notifying him with my other email account, he put things back the way they were and all is normal.

As for this newer version of WordPress…I’m not sure what to make of it exactly. You won’t see too many changes, but supposedly the code is cleaner and more efficient. The backend of it, or what I interact with in the Admin Control Panel has been drastically changed for the better.

Plugin developers are gearing towards 1.5 more than the stable release 1.2.2, so that was part of the reason why I switched – especially for spam plugins like Kitten’s Spaminator.

I’m keeping trackbacks/pings off because I don’t believe I need them. It’ll be one less nuisance for Spaminator to worry about, and definitely one less for me if I kept trackbacks/pings enabled and spam got through. If someone links to me, hopefully Technorati finds it. If not, that’s fine too.

I like Manji, but – but – I think I’d like it if I had Kubrick back again, where my navigation links were on the side. Oh yeah, and the latest updated blogs was a nice convenience for me when I’m at work. Since the nav links are at the top, there isn’t too much room to add anymore. Perhaps I’m not thinking straight, but I’ll probably switch back to Kubrick (which is included in 1.5 by default) and retweak it as best I could before the end of the day.
