  1. You could actually download an Internet Explorer Fix utility, fairly automatic.

You see, the problem with downloading and reinstalling IE 6 on XP is that almost always, XP has a higher IE 6 version (IE 6 SP2), whereas the one you can download is IE 6 SP1, and you would need to make changes on the registry to allow the installation of an earlier version of IE.

Try the article on the link on top, it works like 8 out of 10 times. You could get lucky for all you know.

    Better yet, use FireFox!

  5. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in your connection properties? Uninstall as many programs as you can to try and reduce the variables.

  6. Thanks for the info, but I found a tool called TCP/ IP Optimizer, its great! And after some tweaking with the IP configuration, IE started working again. But the key is to restart windows after any change is done. Otherwise things dont seem to work.

  10. If you have internet connectivity issues, after unistalling Internet based Apps/games or spyware use this utility: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
I have used it after fixing several machines with spyware installed. 90% success rate at re-establishing internet connectivity.
Ensure you have removed all spyware first by running X-cleaner, spybot S&D and Ad-aware personal (All free). Each one is better at catching and cleaning different spyware. Run the cleaners in “safe mode” to prevent spyware from loading and blocking the cleaning process. Then run winsockXPFix. (there is also a version available for Win9x/me).
If all else fails attempt to do a system restore back to an earler restore date.

  13. Well I tried all of the recommendations above and none worked for me.
I remember downloading an installation file somewhere on the net
and when run it actually gave the options of Install, Uninstall AND repair.
Now I wish I had that file. It was big – 60 or 70 Mbytes and so did not require the XP CD.

  14. My IE6 stopped working – no internet access. A kind heart suggested accessing the internet by typeing the URL address in the Address bar of “My Computer”, and it worked. I tried with Mozilla and Opera, and all work, except the IE6 (I have MediaCenter OS). I have tried reinstalling but to no avail. So, for emergency, one can use “My Computer” address bar to access the internet to download other web browsers.

Reinstalling may fix the problem. I dont have the software and i cant even get the start menu up. Is there anything you know of that may help?! ITS
