Fast domain propagation

When I purchased a domain name and hosting, it took three days for the domain to resolve to my webhost. Last night, I helped my friend do the same, and it took 4 hours to propagate through RegisterFly. My host says GoDaddy and eNom could take less than 30 minutes. Times have changed since 2001 when I bought my domain name.
